This single, remaining column of the original 127,
and this foundation, are all that remains of the Temple of Artemis in Ephesus,
one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. Originally it measured 67 meters
(220 ft.) wide by 130 meters (425 ft.) long and was 18 meters (60 ft.) high. In
the background: Isa Bey Camii, fortress of Ayasoluk and (behind the column)
ruins of St. John’s Cathedral.
